The Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture

The Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA) is a Swiss-based non-profit organization, which focuses on enabling farmers’ access to the best technology and advice, raising their yields and linking them to markets.​ SFSA’s global Seeds2B program helps farmers access quality seeds of improved varieties for the crops they need by developing seed markets, scouting for new promising varieties, providing business planning support, trialing, assisting with navigating registration procedures, developing equitable variety licensing agreements between breeders and seed companies, providing technical support for seed production, and conducting monitoring and evaluation. ​

The Soybean Innovation Lab

The Soybean Innovation Lab is building a foundation for soybean production in Africa by developing the knowledge, innovation, and technologies to enable successful soybean production. As part of the USAID Feed the Future initiative, the Soybean Innovation Lab works to reduce global poverty and hunger by accelerating growth in the agriculture sector through improvements in agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture

IITA is an award-winning, research-for-development (R4D) organization, providing solutions to hunger, poverty, and the degradation of natural resources in Africa. Since 1967, IITA has worked with international and national partners to improve livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, increase employment, and preserve natural resource integrity. IITA is guided by an ambitious strategy–to lift 11.5 million people out of poverty and revitalize 7.5 million hectares of farmland–by 2020.

Malawi Department of Agricultural Research

The Malawi Government attaches great importance to the development of agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security conducts agricultural research, through its Department of Agricultural Research Services (DARS) which started in 1938. DARS has been generating agricultural technologies to address the challenges that hinder progress in agricultural productivity, food and income security. DARS is the driving force in the development and dissemination of agricultural technologies in Malawi.

As a leading independent leaf tobacco merchant, Alliance One International provides worldwide service to cigarette manufacturers. Multinational manufacturers of consumer tobacco products rely on independent merchants such as Alliance One to supply the majority of their leaf. Alliance is moving towards soy to diversify their portfolio away from tobacco.

Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization​

Embrapa is a technological innovation enterprise focused on generating knowledge and technology for Brazilian agriculture. Since its foundation, and with partners from the National Agricultural Research System, Embrapa has taken on the challenge to develop a genuinely Brazilian model of tropical agriculture and livestock to overcome the barriers that limited the production of food, fiber, and fuel in Brazil.

Seed Co Limited

Seed Co develops and markets certified crop seeds, mainly hybrid maize seed, but also wheat, soya bean, barley, sorghum and groundnut seeds. Most of our hybrid and non-hybrid cereals and oil crop seed varieties are proprietary, having been developed and bred at our research stations through market-oriented research and breeding programmes.

Zambia Seed Company Limited (Zamseed) was founded in 1981 as a joint venture between the government of Zambia and several private entities, including the Zambia Seed Producers’ Association (ZSPA) and the Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF), and with considerable support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The company has operations in field crop and vegetable seeds, with a focus on maize-breeding activities.

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and promotes public/private partnerships for the access and delivery of appropriate agricultural technologies for sustainable use by smallholder farmers in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) through innovative partnerships and effective stewardship along the entire value chain. The Foundation is a one-stop-shop that provides expertise and know-how that facilitates the identification, access, development, delivery and utilisation of agricultural technologies.
